East Midlands based environmental consultants, Ivy House Environmental, have helped new staff member Joshua (Josh) Haggar celebrate his 2:2 Geology BSc (Hons) Graduation this month with a secure full-time position with the company by the end of summer.
Josh responded to an email sent from Ivy House Environmental Director Richard Sutton, through to the Department of Geology at Leicester University in support of the universities’ Graduate Gateway scheme. The scheme, partnered with Santander, offers paid fixed-term and permanent graduate jobs across a variety of sectors, predominantly with Small to Medium Sized businesses and has been successful with over 100 placements over its first 3 years.
The benefits of the scheme offer the graduate real work experience, a salary, transferable skills, industry experience and very often an opportunity for a permanent foot on the career ladder, as has happened here with Josh.
Originally hailing from Cornwall Josh started on 30th June with no previous experience but a healthy interest in renewables and environmental science. Over the summer he has been gaining experience on drilling projects, groundwater and gas monitoring, including having lots of fun locating 15 year old boreholes across an overgrown landfill in Birmingham!
Ivy House Environmental are a Chartered Environmental Surveying Practice and Consultancy providing advice to the land, property, construction, waste, transport and oil and gas industries across the UK and overseas.
Director, Richard Sutton says “The Graduate Gateway is ideal for small businesses such as ours, where being able to hire people with the specialist knowledge and interests required can sometimes be unaffordable at crucial times of a businesses growth or expansion. It is also a great way for graduate’s to dip their toe in the water of an industry they are thinking of going into. Josh has fitted in so well to our already eclectic team and we congratulate him on his successful graduation.”
